Conducting

The video above is an early example of my conducting.  This is with the 5th grade band at Penn State in 2013.

Over my tenure at Penn State I have studied conducting from the conductor of Penn State’s Glee Club, Dr. Christopher Kiver, the Director of Athletic Bands Dr. O. Richard Bundy, and The Director of Concert Bands, Professor Dennis Glocke.  I have gained some great experiences from conducting small ensembles at Penn State as well as observing multiple conductors.  Applied music faculty such as Professor of Tuba and Euphonium Velvet Brown and Professor of Trombone, Mark Lusk have taught me to conduct the emotional aspect of music, rather than making sure every single beat was conducted.  Professor of University Choir and Essence of Joy Dr. Anthony Leach has taught me to incorporate methods of Kodaly and Dalcroze into teaching music.  He used these techniques extensively in warm up for both choirs.

At The University of Illinois I have had the honor and great opportunity to conduct the Marching Illini.  Below is a picture where I am conducting Hey Baby at the Marching Illini’s indoor concert, Marching Illini in Concert held at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts.

Recently in November 2024 I had the distinct honor to conduct the Westchester Symphonic Winds in their fall concert.  I prepared and conducted Ayo by Katahj Copley.  I gained a great deal of knowledge and technique building working with Curt Ebersole and getting great feedback from the ensemble.
